Today is Julia Child’s 100th Birthday. And even if McKayla Maroney isn’t impressed, food lovers, home cooks and chefs around the world will remember the culinary legend, entertainer and true female role model.
Back in April, at Food + Wine Festival Palm Desert, I had the chance to interview Sara Moulton. She was the first person to clue me in that Julia Child would be 100 years old today. Moulton said, “This year would have been her 100th birthday. August 15th, drink a toast to Julia.”
So today, August 15th 2012, celebrate Julia Child with a good meal and a toast. Or as Julia might say, “Get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken.”
Cheers, Julia Child! McKayla may not be, but I’m thoroughly impressed.
Julia Child on David Letterman embodies the sentiments of Sara Moulton, “She really understood entertainment. You know when people say, ‘You’re either a teacher or an entertainer,’ there was no greater teacher-entertainer than Julia Child.”
