Betty rallies Anthony Bourdain, Kevin Lyman, Jonathan Gold and Roy Choi for a Rock the Food edition of the Fast Food Five at the 13th Annual UCLA Extension Restaurant Industry Conference!
HIGHLIGHTS (IN LOW LIGHT) FROM THE CONFERENCE
Betty was greeted with a delicious three course lunch! Thanks, Chef Hart!
The Beef Salad was Betty’s favorite part of the meal but the Cheesecake Creme Brulee was very tasty… Betty might have to hack out a recipe for that one!
After lunch, Chef Anthony Bourdain took to the stage. The laughs began almost instantly. He is charismatic, charming, edgy and funny; the perfect speaker for this Conference.
Chef Bourdain talked about how the restaurant industry and the image of chefs have changed over the years, and how people are more likely to try different foods thanks to the increasing popularity of sushi, Mario Batali and even Rachel Ray.
Chef Bourdain said he wrote Kitchen Confidential to make his “fry cooks laugh,” and it took him only eight months writing a couple hours each morning before work. If he had to eat one food for the rest of his life it would be Pho. His favorite fast food? In-n-Out. Animal style.
Betty grabbed Chef Bourdain for a game of the Fast Food Five after his book signing. He is hilarious, gracious… and really tall!

I am so jealous! You got to stand next to my not so secret, secret crush, Anthony Bourdain! he seems very personable and charismatic. Overall the convention sounded like a good time and informative. And the Thai Beef Salad looks like the best of the menu!
