My friend Christine, introduced me to her Sichuan Dipping Sauce with Hot Pot. I have since become addicted to the combination of flavors. Seriously, I may need help.
UPDATE: Watch the How to Make Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce video (on YouTube) and check out How to Make Spicy Dipping Sauce Like a Chinese Mother at Babble’s Family Kitchen. Link to the How to Make Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce video.
Ingredients for Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce:
6 tbsp toasted sesame oil
3 tbsp rice vinegar
2-3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp chopped ginger
3 tbsp chopped cilantro leaves and stems
1-2 tbsp minced garlic
1 green onion, chopped (about 2 tbsp)
1 tbsp chopped serrano or jalapeno pepper
Optional Ingredients:
Sriracha or chili oil to taste (about 1 tbsp)
honey (about 1 tbsp)
NOTES: Makes about one cup dipping sauce. Store Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce refrigerated for up to two weeks. Spice and flavors enhance with time.
Chop all ingredients.
Put all of the chopped ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Add all of the liquid ingredients.
Stir all of the ingredients together with a chopstick. Well, you don’t have to use a chopstick… but I swear it makes it taste better.
Give the sauce a taste. Could it use a little more kick? Could it use a little sweetness? Add Sriracha, chili oil or honey as desired.
And there you have it! Let it hang out a little while before serving. The ingredients need to get to know one another if they are going to have a party in your mouth!
Did you say More Perfecter Shrimp???
You may be familiar with my Perfect Shrimp??? If you like it, maybe give More Perfecter Shrimp??? a try!
Prepare shrimp as you normally would. Place on cucumber slice, but instead of Sriracha, add a small amount of the Spicy Asian Dipping Sauce. Top with avocado and sesame seeds. More Perfecter!
