Once upon a time birthday parties were simple. A few balloons, a frosted cake and games in the backyard were pretty rockin’. Somewhere along the way, parents began throwing birthday parties complete with limo rides, shopping sprees, petting zoos, celebrity cartoon guests, trips to the day-spa and don’t forget the goodie bags. And just when it seems like your kid might need a birthday fund instead of a college fund, there’s a new group of parents that are not only looking the gift horse in the mouth, but muzzling it altogether and convincing their kids to give their birthday gifts to charity.
Now, teaching kids about giving, sharing and compassion are great lessons, no doubt. But what about the other 364 days in the year to teach those valuable lessons? How will Schoolgirl Betty react to all of her gifts being given to charity? Are Betty’s parents really the ones that need the lesson in generosity? Watch Sec. 170(c) Birthday Cupcakes to find out for yourself…
