It seems when President Barack Obama does anything it’s newsworthy. And how he orders his burger is no exception. On his first unofficial flight aboard Air Force One, President Obama was presented a leather-bound menu. He briefly glanced at it and said, “We’ll see how you guys do with a burger,” and then proceeded to order a medium-well burger with Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and dijon mustard on the side.
Betty hasn’t had the opportunity to meet President Obama –yet, but she did have the pleasure of meeting Amber Lee Ettinger aka Obama Girl at NATPE in Las Vegas! Among other things, Betty of course asked Obama Girl how she likes her burger. Watch Fast Food Five: NATPE 2009 (Part One) to find out how Obama Girl’s burger order stacks up to President Barack Obama’s!

One of the highlights for Betty at NATPE was the LG Celebrity Kitchen, hosted by Evan Kleiman of KCRW’s Good Food. Betty had the pleasure of meeting Brian Malarkey and Richard Blais from Bravo’s Top Chef, Jennifer Simonetti, Master of Wine, Chef and Lifestyle expert, Steve Spitz, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger of Border Grill and the Rock n’ Roll chef himself, Kerry Simon! Betty watched them all dish it up LIVE in the LG Kitchen. Betty will be dishing up the Fast Food Five: NATPE 2009 (Part Two) featuring Chef Evan, Chef Richard, Chef Mary Sue and Chef Susan… coming soon!
Since Betty was around all those celebrity chefs, she took her (now) “lucky” apron to get some autographs. Here is Betty with Jennifer Simonetti, MW; she is the fourth female in the country ever to obtain the most esteemed designation in the wine industry: Master of Wine (MW). Jennifer’s sabrage of a fine bottle of Piper-Heidsieck was most impressive!
That night Betty dined in extreme foodie style at Wazuzu at Encore, Las Vegas! Executive Chef Jet Tila served up a feast fit for a queen! Sushi and sashimi, salads and a variety of entrées were capped off with a to-die-for ice cream extravaganza. The food was so delicious, Betty wanted to sing; and the leather booth was so comfortable she wanted to take her pants off! Betty’s favorite dish was the Thai Crispy Fish with mango slaw.
The next day, Betty bumped into Flavor Flav rolling down the NATPE floor! Yeah, boiyee! He was too kind to stop and take this photo with lil’ ‘ol Betty!
After another long day of interviews and networking, Betty dined at The China Grill, Mandalay Bay with Daisy Whitney and Greg Bauman, Amber Lee Ettinger and Ben Relles, Tim Street, Brian Brushwood and Brent Friedman. The company and conversations made the evening a blast… but after the amazing meal at Wazuzu with Chef Evan the night before, the food was, well…
Although Betty was armed with tripod and remote control to be a one-woman production team, there is no substitute for the rockin’ camera work Tim Street provided! Thanks, Tim! Betty loves you, and owes you a couple ;) And if you have somehow missed Tim’s wildly-popular French Maid TV, guys, you’re in for a treat! Sexy French Maids doing how-to videos… ooh la la! Subscribe on iTunes or YouTube. (TV-14)
PERKS OF THE JOB
Betty just received a shipment of Award Winning Gourmet Hot Sauces from JD Cowles of All Spice Cafe and she can hardly wait to try them! All natural, no preservatives and full of flavor; the Cayenne Habanero Sauce has got Betty’s taste buds tingling with anticipation. You can find All Spice Cafe sauces at Whole Foods or you can order online.
BIG TIME BETTY NEWS AND REVIEWS
Addie Broyles, Food Editor for The Austin Statesman mentioned Betty in her article, Top 10 food Twitter accounts you should follow. Although Addie didn’t give Betty’s Twitter account the nod, more importantly, she mentioned Average Betty in the same sentence as Wine Library TV. This is quite the validation for lil’ ol’ Betty; not many people realize Betty’s production crew is a hard-working, multi-talented, two-person team. In addition to cooking up the tasty treats for the show, Betty edits video, designs the graphics, shoots the photography and even updates her own Twitter on a daily basis. Thanks for the love, Addie, and putting Betty in the company of the big boys :)
AVERAGE BETTY SUPER BOWL SIGHTINGS
Ben Spark cooked up a Super Bowl spread to be proud of! In addition to wings and chili, he cooked up a batch of Hoffapeños! Ben added some of his own touches, which he documents on his blog. Ben definitely scores a Touchdown!
Jody S from Wilmington, DE also had a rockin’ Super Bowl party! Jody writes, “I made the Mini Burgers, Chicken Nachos, Fajquitos, and last but certainly not least, your California Roll. I also made my famous Spicy Tuna Roll. Everything was wonderful and my friends were raving all things Betty all night…lol.” Thanks for sharing the Betty love, Jody! Now about that Spicy Tuna Roll recipe…

THANK you for acknowledging our star chef! But: Please give us credit! NPR does NOT produce GOOD FOOD with EVAN KLEIMAN — it’s a program that is produced and podcast by KCRW-Santa Monica! http://www.kcrw.com/etc/programs/gf. Come by and visit, listen to our archives, watch our video podcasts…but please note: WE produce it, not NPR! Betty, I would have written to you personally if I could’ve found an email addy for you.

Hi Sarah,
DOH! My bad! I’ve changed the link appropriately and sincerely apologize for the mistake. I love KCRW, listen everyday and I’m a proud subscriber :) And oh, you’re also in my blogroll. Thanks for stopping by my website and producing the fantastic programming on KCRW.

Hey! Who would have thought you’re a two-person production team. And of course you deserve billing with Gary V! He and Mott don’t even EDIT!
Keep up the good work. Now that I’m following you on Twitter, I’ll see about adjusting that top 10. I should have clarified that those were the top 10 on that day. In a few months, who knows who will have developed the best food voices on Twitter?!
Keep up the good work!
