If you live in the Southwest, then you might take a good burrito for granted. But in other areas, a good burrito is as rare as an honest politician. Fortunately, Officer Betty and Burrito 911 are at the ready.
Although Burrito 911 is not an official part of the police force… yet… it was formed to help those in the most dire of situations: A burrito emergency! What is a burrito emergency? Check out Officer Betty in Burrito 911 to find out for yourself.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! OMG! Thanks to Jeff Houck and The Tampa Tribune; Betty Hallock and the Los Angeles Times; and Rachel Pitts of “Nancy and Jeff in the Morning” at Clear Channel WMTX-FM, Average Betty is receiving some awesome press coverage in September!
Jeff Houck, Food Editor at The Tampa Tribune, published a full-page article featuring sixteen color photos, “Bye-Bye, Betty Crocker Hello Average Betty,” in the Flavor Section of the September 5, 2007, issue! Not only that, the preview of the article, “Betty Has A Recipe For Web Success,” made the front page of The Tampa Tribune! Thank you, Jeff, and The Tampa Tribune!
Betty Hallock, Assistant Food Editor at the Los Angeles Times, published an article about Average Betty in the September 12, 2007, edition of the Daily Dish on LA Times.com! It’s a wonderful article, and features color photos of The Hoffepeño Popper and Average Betty. Thank you, Betty, and the Los Angeles Times!
Rachel Pitts, an Executive Producer at WMTX-FM, arranged an interview with Average Betty on Nancy and Jeff in the Morning on Clear Channel WMTX-FM MIX 100.7 on September 7, 2007! Nancy introduced Betty as a “crackpot of a crock pot” and the laughs snowballed from there! Thank you, Rachel, Nancy, Jeff, and MIX 100.7!
SPECIAL THANKS Special thanks to Susan at Kiss My Big Blue Butt, Thomas K for initially turning Susan on to Average Betty, and all of the Kiss My Big Blue Butt readers that stop by to check out Betty! Susan included a link to The Hoffepeño! video in one of her recent articles and as a result sent a wave of great traffic to Betty! If you like funny, well-written political news and commentary, then you will love Kiss My Big Blue Butt! A couple caveats: Don’t call it a blog, and if you happen to love “W” for some reason, it prolly ain’t for you.
COOL VIEWER SHOUT-OUTS! Betty thanks all of the super cool people that watch, vote, write and comment to enrich the Average Betty community, especially those that give feedback and keep in touch! Like Scott M, Norm, Tai-Loong T, Sam W, Rob the pilot, Sean F, Paul B, Russ the “macgeek”, Shane L, Ed R, Jaden from Steamy Kitchen, Bobby F, meliskamaphone, Brooks, Lumilog, Bryan, Joseph P, Marco O, Larry D, Richard C, Roger S, Rebecca G of Cooking Up A Story, Melissa S, Emilie, Sinji and Paul E!
Emilie wrote to tell Betty she had her BOSS and his family over for dinner and made Big Dance BBQ Pizzas and Chocolate Cookie Sundaes. And guess what? Emilie got a RAISE! Must have been an awesome dinner, Emilie! Congratulations!
Rob the pilot has a challenge for Betty and she’s got some ideas! Rob might have some ideas of his own… Rob asks, “I am a pilot and away from home for 4 days at a time. I am so tired of eating out. I would love to see what you can come up with. Something quick, easy and I can bring along with me. Preferably something that doesn’t need to be re-heated.” Betty’s thinking her Chicken Curry Rice Salad… it’s delicious and gets better with age! Recipe coming soon!
Paul B, Russ and Shane L had a few laughs with Hoffepeño! Paul declared Betty “insane!” Russ gave a “ROTFLMFAO!!!!” and Shane L “about laughed [himself] into an aneurysm!” What does Betty say to that? How about, “WOOOO HOOOO!” Shucks, guys… Thanks!
Steamy Kitchen said, “Gorgeous Betty! Read about you in the Tampa Tribune. You ROCK!” Talk about gorgeous… have you seen Steamy? And I’m not talking about the beautiful food she prepares ;) Thanks, home(town) girl!
Betty got some serious validation from Brooks on the Hoffepeño recipe! Brooks wrote, “A great recipe. I’m originally from New Mexico and this is exactly the way we prepared POPPERS. The only difference is that we would cook them on the grill. Nice job Betty. It’s a great, super simple, tasty treat.” Thanks, Brooks! Betty is going to try them on the grill next time!
Roger S had a few thoughts about Betty’s Hoffepeños. Roger wrote, “I never thought to cut them (jalepeños) like that. I like to stuff them with the cream cheese, wrap them in bacon then smoke them in the smoker. Up till now I have been doing it the hard way, cutting off the stem end, cleaning them out with a knife. Stuffing the cream cheese looks so much easier your way. I am doing it your way from now on….” Awesome, Roger! But smoking them sounds fantastic, too!
Ed R said Fajquitos were “the best recipe for camping we have had to date.” Thanks, Ed! And Sinji liked Fajquitos also! She wrote, “I make fajquitos with my honeybunny the other day and they turned out great! We made all diff. fillings and salsas to pair – salsa verde was the fav. with the fajquitos. The gang loved chipotle tabasco on them too. Please give us more awesome vids and how-tos!” Sinji then deemed Betty the “goddess of quirk!” Now that’s a title Betty can get into! Thanks, Sinji!
Betty loves questions… she knows you are paying attention! Lumilog had some great questions about Rock N’ California Roll and the wonderful sakitini that Betty mentions in the video, but never goes into. Thanks, Lumilog! You can see Betty’s response in the comment section here.
Betty got a marriage proposal from Joseph P and his dog, Scooter… and Scooter does dishes! Joseph wrote, “I swear that dog’s gotta magic tongue! lol” Sounds like a marriage made in heaven, Joseph!
Larry D also had some super sweet words for Betty, “Let’s just say the way to my heart is with a pretty face, a sexy body, a sarcastic personality and a bunt cake. Wow who can ask for a better woman!” Well, Betty doesn’t have a dog with a magic tongue… but she can make a mean Coffee Cake!
Richard C had some praise, questions and pointers for Betty… and she’s listening, Richard! And so is Rebecca who says, “Richard got me thinkin’… am I alone here (or practically alone, ONLY 10 percent?), in the female viewship/fanship realm? C’mon gals, sure Betty’s got looks, but she’s got talent too! Let’s voice-out!!” Thanks, Rebecca! Betty loves hearing from the ladies… the men… and even dogs with magic tongues!
But most of all, Betty loves hearing from YOU! Leave Betty a comment and tell her what you think. She can take it!
Thanks for watching!
Betty’s blow’n up! I just got an ad for Average Shrimp on the front page of my Yahoo! All the props from the press and radio are all well deserved… Now off to go learn how to make a killer burrito. ( The picture’s making me hungry)
Hey Nate!
Good to hear from you! I do love me some Yahoo! They have really hooked me up with the banner ad campaign.
All the “traditional” press coverage has been a lot of fun too… my Mom lives in Tampa Bay, so getting Betty delivered in her newspaper was pretty sweet ;)
