March Madness is in full-swing, and like Betty’s latest recipe Blueberry Buttermilk Scones, Average Betty’s Big Dance Bracket Challenge is heating up! At the end of two rounds, Jim Broder is #1, followed closely by Eric Pallone and Slava Rubin. And since it’s almost as hard to come in last, Brian Krams is fighting off Robert Walch and Chuck Ellis for coveted last place. Good luck in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight! Will your bracket survive to make a run at the Final Four?
There are a lot of great prizes up for grabs! Big Betty Shoutout to all of our prize sponsors for helping to make this a fiery competition!
WHAT’S COOKING BETTY?
With the Big Dance Bracket Challenge catching fire, Betty was inspired to fire up her oven and whip up a batch of Buttermilk Blueberry Scones! These scones are a great way to tip-off any morning, especially when there’s a long day of exhilarating NCAA tournament action ahead. They even provide comfort when your beloved UCLA Bruins, and your bracket, are annihilated by Villanova in the second round :(

WHAT’S BETTY UP TO?
Betty will be attending the 13th Annual UCLA Extension Restaurant Industry Conference. This year’s conference theme is A Different Approach which seems appropriate considering our changing needs as restaurant consumers these days. Anthony Bourdain headlines the event and aims to challenge conventional restaurateur thinking and convey that “there’s a lot more to dining than just satisfying hunger.”
And aside from geeking-out at the foodie forums… Betty is going to try her first Kogi Taco! Betty had the pleasure of meeting Chef Roy Choi at a Zocalo Public Square event, “Can Food Really be Authentic?” earlier this month but has yet to try the hottest phenomenon sweeping the streets of Los Angeles and the internets!
AVERAGE BETTY SIGHTINGS
Betty sure was feeling lucky this St. Patrick’s Day! Her Shamrockin’ Sugar Cookies w/ Green Tea Glaze made it on both Tastespotting and Photograzing! Now that’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow :)
Betty has received photos in her email before… but this one takes the cake -errr- the cookie! Keely B from San Diego sent this photo of her Sugar Cookies to Betty with the note, “Guess which one is you? Look closely… U r my inspiration!” And, of course, Betty looks good enough to eat! Thanks, Keely!! You’re my inspiration :) Keep bakin’, girl!
