Awards ceremonies, especially those that spotlight New Media like the Tasty Awards, present unique opportunities to meet online friends in real life. Enter the Queen of the Trailer Park, Jolene Sugarbaker, who won a Tasty Award for Best Comedy! Jolene and I have known each other for years online, and we finally met in-person at the Tasty Awards. If you haven’t seen Jolene’s show (and you appreciate a little comedy in your food entertainment), definitely check it out!
From New Media to Traditional Media, The Tasty Awards recognizes a plethora of influential food personalities, including Anthony Bourdain (Person of the Year Award), Alton Brown and Jacques Pépin (Lifetime Achievement Award), Giada De Laurentiis (Outstanding Entertainer Award), Tyler Florence (Outstanding Vision Award), Meryl Streep (Outstanding Performance Award) and many others. You can see all of the Tasty Awards winners here. One of the highlights of the evening featured Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (shown above), writers/directors of the film, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. They were honored with the Best Animation Award and delivered the funniest acceptance speech of the night. Turns out Lord and Miller didn’t have any competition in their category, which was underscored by their brilliant advice to the audience (paraphrasing) if you are going to dream, make it one where you have no competition.
The after party at New People was three floors of fun, food and drink, and a great opportunity to mingle with some of the celebrities featured at the Tasty Awards, including Zane Lamprey, Nathan Lyon, Bobby Bognar and Leslie Sbrocco.
