BIG THANKS to everyone for playing Average Betty’s Tazo Tea Giveaway, and to Tazo Tea and Edelman PR for making this super-cool contest possible! It was fun to read about your perfect iced tea and sandwich scenarios; you made it difficult for the judges to pick winners. Here’s how it went down…
The judges selected their favorite iced tea stories from your comments. Hollywood Betty scrutinized for glamour, Baja Betty searched for the LOL, and Emo Betty sought the unique. Names were placed into a hat, and each judge had a pick. Three judges. Three Tazo Iced Tea Prize Packages. THREE LUCKY WINNERS!
1) Hollywood Betty selects: #44 Bill Steagall! Hollywood Betty had her work cut out for her. So many deliciously descriptive entries. Although Bill had a fairly common sandwich (y’all love bacon!) his strong jasmine tea at a picnic, watching the sunset over the Severn River near Annapolis Maryland, as warm breezes bring you the fragrance of jasmine blooming as the sun sets sounds both glamorous and romantic. Hubba hubba, Bill. Honorable mentions to Andrew Seely for the long spoon… mounds of prosciutto and busy street in Italy, and Joe Baker for not only giving such a visual description of his English Breakfast Black Tea [and] Ploughman’s Sandwich… on a big blanket near the Thames in Oxford but for sharing his enthusiasm here at averagebetty.com and Betty’s Facebook! |
2) Baja Betty selects: #38 PDiddy! There were many entries for Baja Betty to LOL about, and the lucky entrant is PDiddy! With spiked tea, Nor’cacalacka sauce and a reference to swimming too soon after eating, it had Baja Betty in stitches. Not to go un-LOL’d are Chef John who dropped not only a Hooters, Hall and Oate’s and boom box reference, but an F-bomb too? Oh my! Scotty Snacks and his Lazy-Boy, KEITH on his tailgate at the parking lot of six flags great america amusement park, Franki and his Fake Cuban Sandwich, Capt Bogart’s dive bombing sea gulls, and Anna G’s krab salad sandwich. |
3) Emo Betty selects: #8 Jasmine Lord! Emo Betty has her own style, so finding a unique tea and sandwich experience was crucial. And Jasmine’s entry fits the bill… from her lemon tea, Tim Tams and King Island Dairy cream, her entry was not only visually entertaining and tasty… but educational! Also landing into the unusual and unique hat of Emo Betty were Christie and her Benedictine spread, Jason Jerbil who has his Earl Grey ruined by milk and sugar, Heidi for providing the visual of her iced tea heaven with lots of ice in my mustache pint glass from Bread & Badger and Colleen C for sharing her crusts with the birds and squirrels. |
Honorable Mentions go to Bladerunner for having two qualifying entries, tracy for being the only one to mention Betty’s torta, and Lucy for referencing her lover’s “inferior tea and sandwich combo” and “wearing goofy hats.”
You’re all winners in my book! Thank you so much for playing! I hope to have more loot to giveaway in a new contest soon! Leave a comment.
AND YEAH, HOW ABOUT THAT TORTA?
How about a Grilled Chicken Torta with refried beans, cotija cheese, grilled red onion and avocado relish, piled high inside soft, grilled Telera. Think you can handle it?

Whoohoo! Hell yea! Yeehaw!
I never win anything. Well, I had never won anything up until now. Average Betty, I shall think of you and thank you as I spike that Tazo Tea with Old Grandad.
Bill Steagall says
Thank you Hollywood Betty, Thank you for choosing me. I cannot wait to try the Tazo Tea on the picnic I described. I’m sure it will be perfectly brewed, chilled and served with that BLT! Nothing better after a day of kayak paddling or sailing on the Severn River.
Watch for my video diary entry in two weeks where I show the Tazo Tea maker in action. Oh, and me, too.

Colleen C says
Thanks for the honorable mention Emo Betty! I’ll be drowning my condolences with a Tazo Calm while I pitch breadcrusts at the squirrel that keeps cleaning out the beautiful berries on my hanging strawberry plant before I get a chance too. And what’s up with storing a half eaten pear in my planter? Oh well, better than the squirrel that jammed one down my downspout last summer. GRRR!
