This classic Apple Crisp is full of Apples and loaded with Crisp.
Serve warm, topped with Vanilla Ice Cream and you’ve got comfort for a crowd.
Apple Crisp is like the girl next door. Not too fancy… but everybody wants a piece.
Ingredients for Apple Crisp:
For the Filling:
8-10 medium apples
2 TBSP lemon juice
1 TBSP brown sugar
1 TBSP flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
2 teaspoons vanilla or 1 TBSP bourbon or similar
For the Crisp:
1 cup oats
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
NOTES: Serves 8-10. I used a 10″ well- seasoned cast iron skillet. For further instruction, entertainment and tips watch the How to Make Apple Crisp video!
Directions for Apple Crisp:
1) Peel and slice apples.
2) In a large mixing bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla (or bourbon). Set aside.
3) In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and coarse salt.
4) Cut in butter until well distributed throughout dry ingredients.
5) Stir in nuts.
6) In a well seasoned cast iron skillet, or other baking vessel, pour apples in an even layer, then top with oat mixture.
7) Bake in a preheated 350(F) oven for 45 minutes or until Crisp is golden and apples are tender to your liking.
8) Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
