As you may know, we’re pretty big Kerry Simon fans around here. We met him in LA, interviewed him in Vegas and follow him everywhere on Twitter. Admittedly we dream about his Tuna Dynamite. So when we heard that the Rock n’ Roll Chef would be a Guest DJ with Raul Campos on our favorite radio station, well, the wagering was on!
What songs would make the chef’s playlist and why?
We’ve been fortunate enough to talk music (and Jello shots) with Chef Kerry before. He told us he’s always been a fan of INXS (at Simon LA with Jon Farris, left) and The Rolling Stones. He smiled as he described the sweet guitar collection this busy chef can’t always find time to play.
We asked if he’d ever heard Band of Horses, a newer band we were loving on KCRW at the time. Kerry hadn’t heard of them… but asked us via text a few days later, What was that band again?
After careful consideration, a little wishful thinking and some deliberation, it seemed INXS and The Rolling Stones were sure bets to make the cut, but who would the other artists be? Would our boys, BOH get a nod?
Well, here’s the Kerry Simon KCRW Guest DJ Project playlist:
1. Be My Lover – Alice Cooper
2. Starman – David Bowie
3. ELO Kiddies – Cheap Trick
4. Rocks Off – The Rolling Stones
5. New Sensation – INXS
Band of Horses didn’t make it and that’s OK. We smell the pot of nostalgia Chef Kerry is cookin’ with this countdown… now we just wonder… What does the Rock n’ Roll Chef think about our latest KCRW favorite, Tame Impala?
