There are things in life that are terrible. Like pirates, taxes and hay fever. There are things in life that are good. Like saving money, hot tubs and Dodgers baseball. And there are things in life that are truly wonderful. Like family, friendship and whipped, spreadable butter. Sometimes it takes a little terrible to help you realize all of the wonderful that surrounds you.

SPREADIN’ THE LOVE

Christy Jordan of Southern Plate will make you feel right at home, if not down-home and part of her family. And heck, Betty has family in Alabama… chances are Christy and Betty are related somehow! Christy knows her way around her tiny kitchen and dishes up Southern Classic Comfort Food and Family Recipes with a bit of sass, laughs and a whole lotta twang.

Marilyn from Simmer Till Done lists one of her bad habits as “snacking on butter,” so her wonderful blog is a natural for Spreadin’ the Love! Marilyn is a talented artist and posts fabulous deliciousness from good ol’ Oatmeal Cookies to whimsical tales of Oven Mitty and letters to Pottery Barn.

Farina from Salt n’ Tumeric writes about Asian and Malaysian Cooking for Amateurs. Farina’s dishes are simple, authentic and oh-so-tasty. Salt n’ Tumeric empowers amateurs to cook authentic and wonderful Asian and Malaysian food.

Heidi from Savory TV brings you everything from celebrity chef videos, culinary tips, food trivia and vintage infomercials. Savory TV makes gourmet cooking less intimidating to everyone, and demonstrates that restaurant-quality meals are easily achieved at home.

Shelby shares whom she loves, what she loves, and what she loves to do at The Life and Loves of Grumpy’s Honeybunch. Her recipes are a mix of family favorites and collected cookbook classics with a lot of Grumpy in between.

Christie from Fig & Cherry lives in Australia and, quite honestly, that’s enough for Betty! But there’s more: Christie is a self-taught cook and self-confessed cookbook and magazine addict. Clearly, Christie and Betty have a lot in common. Fig & Cherry serves up simple, elegant recipes accompanied by beautiful photos that will get your taste buds quivering.

It’s no surprise that Gera from Sweets Foods is one of the sweetest in all of the food-blogosphere. Gera lives in Uruguay and has been influenced by all types of cuisines… and Sweets Foods provides great resources to the food community. From foodies on Twitter to contests to enter, Gera is always lending helpful knowledge… and inspiring foodies to be active!

Last but certainly not least, one that Betty has blogged about before… Rebecca and her crew at Cooking Up A Story offer a variety of insightful short films about sustainable food and introduce you to the people who work to change our world for the better through agriculture, ecology, and the environment. The site is chock-full of recipes, and their YouTube channel is brimming with videos.

WHAT’S BETTY BEEN UP TO?


Big thanks to Sarah Spitz of KCRW for making it possible to see the Bird and the Bee live in studio at KCRW on Morning Becomes Eclectic with Jason Bentley! It was an unforgettable morning touring the station and watching an amazing performance! Thank you, Inara and Greg, for signing CDs and taking photos. You are too sweet!

And if you listen or watch the live performance, you can hear Jason Bentley talking about the cookies that Betty brought to the studio (and, among many amazing originals, an awesome performance of Hall & Oates’ “Sara Smile”). Betty had plenty of peanut butter-marshmallow Holiday Disco Cookies and customized KCRW Sugar Cookies to share with the wonderful people of KCRW and the Bird and the Bee. The coconut covered “C” sugar cookies seemed to be the crowd favorite!

MI Lie had some great questions about the consistency of the icing and Betty was able to get right back to her with answers because she asked in the comment section Your cookies look darling, MI Lie!
